Your essay reminds me of the concept of “extinction burst” - that a waning force sometimes flames out near the end…in this case, the declining percentage of “red” Americans in the nation. They see the writing on the wall and grab at power ever more cunningly and desperately. You predict this force won’t burn itself out, but will require active and perhaps lethal opposition. I hope you are wrong, but you could very well be right. Those of us who value democracy can’t wait on the sidelines.
