VP Debate: Walz Crushes Vance for “Damning Non-Answer”

My quick-take on the VP debate.

I just finished watching the Vice Presidential debate of 2024. But it felt weirdly as if I was watching a debate between two presidential candidates. Tim Walz repeatedly referred to the policies and progress in place in Minnesota under his governorship as if he would be taking the lead on policy making as a VP. I hope Harris briefs him on just how little power a VP actually has.

And Vance — Vance who had the reputation of Trump’s attack dog — was cordial, agreed with Walz wherever possible, and seemed downright affable (even while repeatedly lying like a dog through his bright, smiley, barely bared teeth).

But I got the feeling Vance was really not there as Trump’s defender, but rather he was auditioning for his own Presidential campaign in 2028.

I predict Trump will not be pleased by Vance’s affability, not one bit. And Vance doesn’t care. He’s looking to his own future, with Trump but a stepping stone.

But — the fatal moment for Vance came when Walz did something dangerous in any debate — he directly asked his opponent a question: Yes or no, did Trump lose the 2020 election?

Note to future debaters: Never, ever answer a question posed by your opponent. It is always a trap.
