The ABCs of America’s Presidential Election Issues
A primer of priority issues
Sometimes it helps to have a shorthand for this most important issues in the 2024 presidential election — issues that can motivate you to get involved, do move than just vote, and to participate fully this election season. These are my ABCs — you might want to invent your own.
A is for abortion. Kamala Harris wants to enshrine abortion rights into national law, ending new state restrictions and abortion bans. Trump stacked the Supreme Court that overturned Roe v. Wade and may well sign a national abortion ban if he is re-elected. To me, the fundamental issue on the ballot is this: will women have control over their own bodies? It’s a basic human right that should not be overruled by religious beliefs imposed by a minority.
B is for the Border, and the choice between a Bipartisan border law already agreed upon in Congress, which Harris says she will sign into law, but Trump told his allies in the House to squash. On the other hand, Trump blames immigrants for “tainting our blood” and blames them for everything from crime to drugs to — hilariously — eating people’s pets. Holy crap that is riDONcurous. His plan is to round up illegal immigrants in camps and deport them all.
