So - I think many of us struggle with this: is the state of Israel the same as the Jewish people? Can one criticize the state for killing civilians without it being antisemitism? If not, then doesn’t this give Israel Carte Blanche to do whatever they like in retaliation for the attack?

I think it is possible to both be a foe of antisemitism, and hold the government of Israel to a moral standard, even in the midst of war. However - let’s be honest: we are not effectively doing this with Russia. Okay, they are an adversary. But we are not doing this at all with Saudi Arabia in Yemen. And of course, no one effectively held the US itself to any standard during the unjustified war on Iraq.
