My wife and I are a bit of an anomaly: we are post growth “millionaires”. Frankly, that title is dumb, as we are far from rich, but managed to buy a few small rental condos during our 25 years working together. Housing prices inflated, and so we crossed that meaningless threshold. Post pandemic, we chose to sell our home and give away most of our possessions for a simpler life travelling. We work enough to afford expenses, but we are no longer concerned with accumulation. We feel we have enough to retire on when the time comes without being a burden on our (adult) children or society.

This also gives us some time and resources to dedicate to causes that are important, but not of material benefit. That feels like a luxury. For example, this fall I plan to volunteer for a get-out-the-vote effort (and not for the party of reactionary Billionaires).

A book I recommend: Power Switch: How we can end extreme inequality now.
