Marc, Thank you for this thought exploration, and your reader-friendly philosophical style. I do have a critique - not to change your mind but for other readers to considered: Your argument boils down to: The numbers are too big to fathom! Therefore god. Oe could call this the argument from "Awe!" Indeed, my first real belief in GOd came from starting at the actual Milky Way under a summertime prairie sky. A Mystical sense of wonder filled me, and I knew that this was proof enough that God exists. However forty years later, I still feel the awe, but no longer believe in God. At least, not in an sense my younger self would have recognised. A mysterious force beyond human knowledge? Absolutely! But I dare not name that mystery (I guess I'm with the Old Testament Hebrews here). Infinite I can better comprehend. But physics has holes in it (literally 'dark matter') and science has thus far failed to explain consciousness. The Unknown greatly exceeds the known. "Therefore, God!" is not my conclusion, however. But it keeps me wondering, and keeps the misery alive. In this way, I might guess you and I share a common faith...
