Karen, I appreciate your perspective, your anger towards Biden, and your inner conflict. I also note that the vast majority of your respondents take a critical stance towards what they term your “moral purity.” Clearly, doing what is right for the children of Gaza in alignment with your highest values is important to you. And the political choice before you seems like a Sophie’s choice. And so, you choose not to choose (presumably you will abstain, not actually cast a vote for Trump?).


I imagine you also don’t feel good about that choice not to choose - hence your blogpost. At Least, it is not written as a call for others to do as you do, merely as an expression of your turmoil and you choice. Am I right? Now, it may also be you live and teach in a solidly Blue state, in which case your vote doesn’t make a difference to the final outcome. But what if you live in a swing state? Your vote might be crucial. Also your stance not to vote blue might affect how others vote in many states. So your influence might be significant regardless of your intent.

May I offer a thought experiment, as an opportunity to gut check your choice?

Imagine Election Day is tomorrow, and you are the last voter to vote. You have learned the electoral college vote is tied, with your state in the balance, and yours will be the deciding vote. If you don’t vote, the state goes to Trump (imagine your state legislature is Republican).

Also, the rules have changed. The winner takes office the next day. Your vote alone decides if tomorrowTrump takes over, and his policy on Gaza is the new way forward. Not voting, remember equals Trump presidency. For the sake of the children of Gaza - you choose now - who will represent the US?
