Jill, as a Canadian/US dual citizen who has lived in both nations, I think the main difference is Canadians have far more of a social consciousness —in general. That niceness is a willingness to respect and care for neighbors, to defer to social norms and to play by the rules. The US more follows the stereotype of “rugged individualism “ - though I sure agree many have become quite whiney and obsessed with their victim hood.
