I think yes, about power - or specifically a loss of power. Trump offers a compensation for being weak - you are persecuted, you are a victim. And, you are the true patriots, true Americans, worthy by birth (you don’t need to actually work to achieve something). The Others - black, Muslim, immigrant, woman, gay - they are taking it away from you! But I will smite them! I think that’s the illusion of power they get from listening to Trump.
