I agree with Steve - below - and in your response to him. Sienma's Op Ed makes deceptive use of reasonable position on partisanship. But, it's a false equivalency: This is not about two sides growing further apart. It is about the Republicans under Trump undermining the electoral system, and seeking power at all costs. Citizens can't normalise this behaviour. Period.
