Hi Tessa,
Gosh, these are tough circumstances. And tough for your daughter, too —and typical I I mange for the majority of Portuguese (my wife is a citizen)—and Portuguese are still better off than most people in the world.
So yes, asking them to give up meat and buy sustainable products won’t make a difference.
And you might be - might be - right that we have crossed the threshold of some tipping points. The fact is, we don’t know.
I believe though that many people - including Alan - are not wasting their time working hard to implement effective policies that can make a difference. Which is why I come back to Methane. Just in the past year, new global agreements, and new US regulations have been adopted to limit and phase out some of the biggest sources of methane leakage.
It’s too hard to explain the significance of this - but Alan does a good job - and if you like you can find him on Medium where he writes about this stuff. Alan Miller.
I think it might give you some hope - and certainly, it would provide interesting material for your consideration when writing about adaptation.
Tessa, you are such a smart person. I hope you can find some new ways to earn money in your present circumstances.
