Hi Jesse, wow, so much in your post to process! So, first, thanks for mentioning me. Indeed, you are one of the few fellow writers on Medium I've connected with in a personal, meaningful way. Thank you. And, than you for recognising that I'm not on Medium to collect claps & cash. The platform does tempt us with its alalytics to "grow" our audience, and who knows maybe attract a multitude and then, wow, earn a living off our writing! The reality, of course, is that "writing for a living" will always work for a few - some with talent, some with marketing skills, some with luck. I'm both a published author (10 books) and a publisher (have produced over 100 books in the past ten years). I've never earned a living from it. It's always been a labor of love, a way to give birth to good ideas and share powerful experiences. But, if you are writing to get rich, go into advertising!
All this to say, I'm glad you have found your balance, your even keel. I hope you do stay present on Medium, sharing your thoughts and brilliant paintings. You are inspiring me to break out the watercolours I have brought to Norway with me. I used to dabble with brushes, and thought the urge might strike while I'm in Norway. Lots for the eye to feast on here.
As to the UK - it's a big place. There are fantastic people up and down the land...but you have to find a place that's right for you. If I were in your shoes, I would think about the Scottish Highlands. You might find kindreds souls there - and perhaps a kindred landscape? Worth a holiday, at least...
