Hi, and respect to a fellow Tim! I ache too few data points on the subject of AI to be knowledgable. Ad, it is human nature to hype the latest trend. As for Google and Microsoft--I suspect they are making money hand over fist offering services to companies terrified about being left behind in the development of AI.

My guess is that, like the Internet, it will fall short of the hype, but have a significant impact probably on parts of our lives we cant even imagine. And - what not many ae saying, that it will spawn it's own shadow side -- just as the Internet amped conspiracy theories, proliferated scams on the elderly and unwary, and provided an endless stream of pornography.
