David, thank you for taking the time to write these notes. I read Edelman’s Steps with great interest…but I protest that write the steps to a plan is not itself proof that a thing is possible. (Cf. Plans for producing universal free energy. Or building an antigravity machine).

I believe such plans start with the analogy that the brain is like a computer…and then try to build a computer that is like a brain. But consciousness has not been reduced to a brain function.

I’m not saying that it 100% couldn’t be, just that we could be barking up the completely wrong tree, like alchemists seeking to turn lead into gold.
