Cigarette companies used exactly this logic! And still today they are right! Science can never be 100% certain, and it is always subject to updates. That said, science can’t convince a man against his will that the world is a sphere, the stars are far away, and that if you drink bleach you will hurt yourself.

But - to claim the the positions flat earths and bleach-drinkers therefore should have equal standing with the scientific consensus is, well, ridiculous.

When you get a strong consensus amongst scientists, it means no one has produced an experiment to create enough doubt in the consensus. And researchers try to do that all the time.

Because that has FAILED, fossil fuel companies have spent billions on misinformation campaign to smear and undermine the science. These are not skeptics. They are paid to misinform the public.
