Boosters are not paid simply for the stories they select, but also for the work they put into reading many more stories and choosing only the cream of the crop. I also work as a publisher and a good part of my job is reading and rejecting bad manuscripts. I don’t get paid for that, I get paid for the books I publish. But if I published random books, they would not sell and we would go out of business.
