Billionaires Got No Balls

Do they want Trump to win?

I was incensed that both the L.A. Times and the Washington Post declined to endorse a presidential candidate due to pressure from their billionaire owners. This broke long-established traditions by both papers of the editorial team endorsing the candidate they collectively believe is best suited to lead the nation. The decisions sparked a backlash of high-level resignations within the papers and many subscribers ended their subscriptions in disgust.

The two billionaires in question — Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon and Patrick Soon-Shiong, a biotech billionaire — have been mendacious in their explanations, claiming it was to promote objectivity in reporting. The world called bullshit. Post owner Bezos comes off as craven and greedy as the story broke that his Blue Origin rocket company execs had just met with Trump’s people — who reportedly implied if the Post endorsed Harris, and Trump won the election, Bezos’ company would not get a single government space contract for the next four years. Bezos’ denials that he knew about the meetings strain credulity — to put it too politely.

The Guardian called this form of gutlessness ‘anticipatory obedience’. Get used to this term. It means billionaires with no balls.
