Amiel, this is the single most thoughtful article I have read about the present political moment. I’m a communications professional, and your thoughts about curiosity and the kinds of conversations we could be having now resonate so solidly with me.
I’ve also approached the Biden campaign and several political groups in PA to volunteer from mid Sept to the election - responses have been positive, but no one has engaged me in the kinds of questions you are asking (and Bob Casey’s PA Senate campaign sends me a relentless torrent of spam emails and texts about the urgent need to donate to their campaign RIGHT NOW!).
I don’t know who I could have the kinds of conversations you are speaking about with. I am a communications coach/speaker trainer, and co author of the book ProTruth: a Practical Plan for Putting Truth Back into Politics. I also canvases and poll watched in 2022. So, have a few things to bring to the table. I’ve found a place as a volunteer to help voters with there registration issues. I’ll man phone banks. Happy to work in the trenches. But there’s more I could do. I’ll continue to put out feelers for somebody, anybody, interested in having conversations for possibilities.
