Allan, while I disagree with some of your analysis, I think your perspective is important - because yes, I think Western leadership is weak, our governments dysfunctional and given a chance, we would cave as you predict in order to retain our complacency.

Where I differ - See Charles' comment below - is that the media narrative is supporting a policy of appeasement. The shift I have seen is more one that sees Ukraine pushing back, and possibly defeating the invaders. Wishful thinking, perhaps, but a shift in the narrative that can create a bandwagon effect - nations may be more inclined to support a Ukraine that can win - and perhaps disembowel Russia a bit at the same time. I'm skeptical of such optimism - but think it is at least as likely as your dire scenario.
